Borders are Imaginary, 2021
Block print and embroidery floss on cotton. Hand printed, hand embroidered.
The animal shown is a Mexican free-tailed bat, a migratory animal. They migrate South from the Sonoran desert in the winter, where my dad’s family is from. The flowering nopal cactus symbolizes resilience and hope.
The original print run of this image was created to fundraise for Border Activist Youth, a grassroots youth-led organization providing educational services to refugee and immigrant children living in a shelter in Tijuana, México.
